STV Chosen to Oversee Construction Inspection for Newark Bay Bridge Trestle Project

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) has selected STV to provide construction inspection services for the westbound Newark Bay Bridge trestle project. This work represents an important early stage of the larger Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program, which aims to modernize one of the region’s most heavily traveled transportation corridors.

The project includes the construction of new foundations within Newark Bay, installation of structural steel components, temporary work bridges over the water, roadway reconstruction, and drainage system improvements. Because of the project’s scale and location, coordination will involve multiple agencies and stakeholders, including the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the U.S. Coast Guard, local governments, utility providers, and other regional partners.

According to STV, the early construction phase will help establish the groundwork for a safer and more resilient transportation connection between Newark and Hudson County.

The trestle work is part of NJTA’s broader modernization effort for the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension. Plans for the larger program include rebuilding approximately 4.1 miles of roadway, replacing 16 bridges, and constructing new cable-stayed bridge spans to replace the existing Newark Bay Bridge.

Construction activities are expected to begin in 2026, with the overall modernization program anticipated to continue for several years.

STV has extensive experience providing construction management, inspection, and quality assurance services on major transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Northeast. The firm has previously participated in several high-profile bridge and rail projects, including improvements to the Portal North Bridge, the Kosciuszko Bridge, the Sawtooth Bridge, and the Scudder Falls Bridge.
